“Doctor, n. A person who, in any faculty or branch of learning, has attained the highest degree conferred by a University.”
The Doctors’ Flowers is a lifestyle family business owned by husband-and-wife Dr Isabelle de Solier and Dr Buck Rosenberg.
Both Doctors of Philosophy from the University of Melbourne, Isabelle and Buck each spent over a decade researching and lecturing on Quality of Life and the role that Homes, Gardens, Food and Flowers play in the cultivation of our souls and wellbeing.
Through their research and first-hand experience, The Doctors became convinced of the positive effect of Nature - or “Vitamin N” - on emotional wellbeing, and made it their mission to share the therapeutic benefits of flowers and plants with as many people as possible.
This inspired them to start the Charity Floral Acts of Kindness Inc. in 2016, and their career change to a “Green Profession” opening their shop The Doctors’ Flowers in 2019.
Dr Isabelle de Solier (PhD/ASD/ADHD)
CREATIVE DIRECTOR
Isabelle has a PhD in Contemporary Cultural Studies from the University of Melbourne (2010). She’s an expert on taste and trends in Food, Gardens and Flowers. Author of the best-selling book Food and the Self (2013), Isabelle was awarded a Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) by the Australian Research Council to undertake a 3-year project on cultural trends in Gardening, which included stints as a Visiting Scholar at NYU in 2018 & 2019. As an undergrad, Isabelle couldn’t decide what she wanted to be, so she studied Photography, Journalism, Marketing and Fashion Design, before graduating with First Class Honours in Women’s Studies.
After experiencing the therapeutic effects of Floral Design in a night class, Isabelle completed professional training at Bloom College in Melbourne before studying Advanced Floral Design at Flower School New York and the New York Botanic Gardens.
Isabelle co-founded Australia’s first Flower-Rescue Charity, Floral Acts of Kindness Inc., and has been an Expert Presenter on the main stage at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show.
Dr Buck Rosenberg (PhD/ADHD/ASD) BUSINESS MANAGER
Buck has a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Melbourne (2008). He’s an expert on taste in Home Design, Interior Decoration and DIY Makeovers, who has authored articles in world-leading journals such as Home Cultures and The International Journal of Cultural Studies. As an undergrad, Buck studied Politics, History and Globalisation, before graduating with First Class Honours in Sociology.
Following his PhD, Buck was awarded a Macarthur Fellowship to conduct a 3-year nation-wide project on trends in Retirement Lifestyles and Ageing in Australia. His findings led him to decide to retire from Academia. Since then, he’s found fulfilling work as a Gardener, Funeral Director, and Stay-at-Home Dad to Rosie, before co-founding The Doctors’ Flowers with Isabelle.
Some say he may be the most interesting man alive, but Buck’s convinced he met that guy in a Centrelink resume-writing course.
